How Grivio collects, uses, protects, and manages personal information.

Grivio Peer Support Inc. (“Grivio,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and safeguard information when you use our mobile application, website, waitlist, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

Because Grivio supports people navigating deeply personal experiences, we treat sensitive information with particular care and aim to explain our practices clearly.

1. Who We Are

Grivio Peer Support Inc. is a Canadian peer support company based in Victoria, British Columbia. We connect people through shared lived experience involving grief, loss, addiction recovery, caregiving, loneliness, and major life transitions. 2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Waitlist information: name, email address, support interest, and information you voluntarily add.
  • Account information: name, email address, encrypted or hashed credentials, and profile details.
  • Profile and matching information: lived-experience tags, preferences, and details you choose to share for peer matching.
  • Messages: content of one-to-one conversations with matched peers.
  • Mood check-ins: self-reported mood, reflections, and related entries.
  • Safety reports and support communications: information submitted when reporting content or contacting us.

2.2 Information collected automatically

We may collect device type, operating system, app version, IP address, browser information, session data, feature engagement, and basic website usage information. We may also use essential cookies and similar technologies.

2.3 Sensitive information

Loss- or recovery-related tags, mood entries, messages, and personal circumstances may reveal health-adjacent or otherwise sensitive information. You control what you share, and we encourage you to share only what you are comfortable disclosing.

3. How We Use Information

  • Create, secure, and manage accounts;
  • Operate the waitlist and send requested updates;
  • Facilitate peer matching and messaging;
  • Surface relevant crisis or support resources;
  • Review safety reports and enforce our rules;
  • Provide support, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Service;
  • Communicate about important changes and features; and
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use sensitive information such as mood data, message content, or lived-experience tags for targeted advertising.

4. Consent

We collect, use, and disclose personal information with consent or as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law. Consent may be express or implied depending on the sensitivity of the information and the context. You may withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, although doing so may limit features that depend on the information.

5. Who May See or Receive Information

5.1 Other users

Matched peers may see profile details and tags you choose to share, along with messages you send. They do not receive your password, private safety reports, or mood check-ins.

5.2 Authorized Grivio personnel

A limited number of authorized personnel may access information when necessary to operate, secure, support, or review safety concerns within the Service. Access is limited according to role and purpose.

Providers may process information only to deliver contracted services and are expected to protect it appropriately.

5.4 Legal and safety disclosures

We may disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, enforce agreements, protect rights, or respond to a genuine threat to a person’s safety.

5.5 Business transactions

If Grivio is involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, information may be transferred subject to appropriate safeguards and applicable law.

6. International Processing

Some service providers may process or store information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to that jurisdiction’s laws and lawful-access requirements. We use reasonable contractual, technical, and organizational safeguards for cross-border processing.

7. Data Security

We use safeguards designed to protect personal information, including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, encrypted or hashed credential storage, role-based administrative access, and database access controls such as row-level security. No system can guarantee absolute security. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will provide notices required by applicable law.

8. Retention

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including maintaining an active account, meeting legal obligations, resolving disputes, and completing safety investigations. Some information may be retained in anonymized or aggregate form.

9. Mood Check-Ins and Crisis Resources

Mood check-in data may personalize the experience and surface crisis or support resources. It is not shared with matched peers or used for advertising. Grivio is not an emergency or crisis-monitoring service. See our Terms of Service and Crisis Support page.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to personal information, ask that inaccurate information be corrected, withdraw consent, request account deletion, or ask questions about our practices. Contact support@griviopeersupport.com. We may need to verify identity before completing a request.

You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or an applicable provincial privacy regulator.

11. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our website may use essential cookies or local storage for functionality, security, consent preferences, and waitlist operation. Optional analytics will be used only in accordance with the choices presented through our consent controls. Browser settings can be used to limit cookies, although some features may not work as intended.

12. Children’s Privacy

The Service is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have done so, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the Service, our practices, or legal requirements. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.
